Gridded Concert Poster

Image
This project was a pretty fun one as it made me think out of the box in order to create a design based off The Weeknd. I had to do a lot of things in order to figure out how to create the design and figure out how to do things that I was unsure of how to do in Indesign. This included researching how to make gradients, how to make text gradients, what fonts The Weeknd uses in his promotional work, and how to cut out the image in a way that blends into the background just like the original image. This was a bit challenging as I had no idea how I was supposed to do some of the things that I envisioned for the design but after researching, I was able to make the design in a way that I liked. It also made me a bit more aware of the grid as I was still breaking the grid and sometimes breaking it in a bad way, but I was also utilizing the grid in order to make the design for the poster and lining up the text with the margins. I feel like this was a good experience as I was able to learn...

Hierarchy On Grid

Image
This project was a bit confusing as I wasn't really sure how I would go about creating the designs but after a bit of clarification, it became easier. I used the text we were meant to use in different ways that would make the design stand out and more specifically, make those parts stand out. This project was a bit difficult but it taught me about how to make pages and how to use hierarchy on a grid which the lesson was supposed to teach about. It also taught me about how to make designs without using most of the options in the panel. I feel like this is good practice as it allows me to create a design with many limitations, but also helps understand hierarchy more which will be useful to other designs I will make in the future that utilize these aspects.

Expressive Words

Image
This project was very interesting as it made me think outside of the box for a moment and think about how I would arrange these words that I choose into a design. The project wasn't that difficult but taught me how to be more creative and expressive with type in design and how I can do certain actions to make a word pop. I think that this is a small yet beneficial learning experience. I didn't really struggle with this project and hope that there are similar projects to this in the future. My taught process for this was to utilize type in a way that makes it both neat, but also unique. With most of the words I took them literally and utilized its actual definition in order to make the design. This is shown through box where I create a square using Box four different times and also through Parallel as I use it twice to create a picture of two lines that don't intersect and make these lines the word parallel.

Gestalt On Grid

Closure Similarity Figure Ground Proximity Continuity My first impressions of grids was that it would help organize the page in a way that would allow it to be easier to design things. I kind of underestimated how easy grids would make it to organize the design. The rows and columns created by the grid made it extremely easy to organize the type in a neat way, while also giving me a guide on where to put the type and how to not break the grid. The grids help your brain create a shape like in my closure example (1st picture) by giving it a direction that you can imagine the text in the grid to go to, and make it seem more neat. This grid creates a sense of unity with continuity, figure ground, closure and similarity which all can have their empty space filled in with text which creates a united image. This is actually a very useful skill to know as I can use grids in other adobe programs to help outline and create my designs. It also can help me if I need to use the modules inside the g...

Hierarchy Technical

Image
Using InDesign I recreated the model that was shown on the lesson and repeated that 8 times based on the model. With each model I utilized different font size, horizontal spacing, and vertical spacing in order to make the designs  closest to how they look on the lesson. From there with some help, I copied the design and changed spacing, paragraph settings, color, and font type in order to achieve a finished product. This project was pretty simple and easy once I understood what to do but stuff like figuring out the paragraph settings was the most difficult part. Additionally this assignment allowed me to learn a lot and utilize many different parts of InDesign in order which could help me enhance my designs later on. This assignment could actually help out later on when doing assignments that have similar elements and utilize hierarchy in order to do it more efficiently. This could also be beneficial towards later assignments as I have an un...
