300ppi vs 72ppi Resolution

1. The difference between 300ppi and 72ppi is the amount of pixels that makes up an image with the 300ppi image being more clear than the 72ppi one. ppi stands for pixels per inch and is the amount of pixels that are per inch of the image, for example 1 inch in length would be 72 pixels in lengths as that is how many pixels are in each inch and if it was 2 inches then it would be 144 pixels with each inch being 72 pixels. The one with higher pixel density in each inch would lead to higher quality as there would be more pixels making up the image and the reverse being for lower detail. 300ppi would be more detailed and larger than a 72ppi which would still be detailed but instead smaller.

2. It is important for graphic designers doing print projects as the resolution of an image could be represented in the print. If they are doing print work, then a 72ppi would fit more than a 300pii one if the image being used is small and used in a portion of the print. With 300ppi it would fit more for larger images on a print as it would take up more of the print space. The issue with this would come with the 72ppi as if you were using an image with that resolution and wanted to enlarge the image it would cause issues with blurriness and it would be pixelated. This would be shown in the print work and make the work look less neat. With 300ppi it would already be a larger image and could be shrunk into the preferred size needed for the print and it wouldn't cause issues and decreasing the size of a high res picture retains it qualities and it allows for lager sizes to be printed due to the higher resolution.

3. Similarly to how the resolution is important to graphic designers, it is also important to web designers for the same reasons. The 72ppi with it being smaller would be optimal for parts of a website that need a relatively small image that has quality to it. This is usually considered the standard resolution used for web images as it is a good size to use on websites and detailed but not too low in quality. For 300ppi it is mainly used in scenarios where the larger image quality is needed. This could be in situations where there is a design about something on the website and a high quality image of something in a larger size is needed in order to create the design. 72ppi could work in these scenarios but it would have to be a smaller version of that design. 300ppi isn't the best thing to use for web though since the amount of pixels doesn't matter that much except for situations where it calls for more pixels. Because of that 72ppi is better for web designs.

4. While 72ppi and 300ppi are commonly used, there are many other resolutions that could be used and are used for specific scenarios. There are resolutions like 600ppi which are used where detail is needed and there are also many other resolutions that are used other than 72ppi and 300ppi. Programs like Adobe Photoshop can modify the resolution of an image from one resolution to another. This method of changing the resolution mainly works when shrinking down an image but can be used to increase the resolution of an image. The downside of this though is that increasing the resolution of something like 300ppi causes the image quality to decrease. This leads to the downside of the image becoming pixelated and makes it look less detailed.
