Logo Development

 Pencil Roughs

For my pencil roughs, I decided to go with a few variations for half of the names I had because I wasn't really leaning towards one specific name at the time. During this process I spent a few days going over my names and what I wanted to do with them. With the names Torres, Alpine Sip, and Kosmik I had somewhat of an idea on what to do for them. For Torres I wanted to go for a script or transitional font in order to make the word Torres stand. For Alpine Sip, I had the idea of making a graphic of the alpine region. Finally for Kosmik, I decided to do a spacey idea, focusing on the cosmos, constellations and other aspects of space.

I personally found some of these sketches to be fun to make and I enjoyed making while others I didn't know what to do and decided to make something I believed fit the font. I feel like I could improve by taking better pictures of the images and maybe putting more thought and effort into those designs I wasn't motivated in making. This was the start of the design process and led to me learning more.

Digital Roughs

For my digital roughs, I decided to go with the 5 pencil sketches that I liked the most and input them into illustrator in order to be designed. The first one I chose was the Torres logo and the logo where I turn my initials into a medieval tower to represent Torres' meaning. I chose to focus on changing the way the E looks in order to get some ideas as to the designs I want. For Kosmik I decided to make it look like constellations and adjust the width, size, spacing and color. For the Alpine Sip logo, I just tried to make the mountain look different by changing the size and shading. For the Obsidian Coffee, I experimented with the font, color and detail. Finally for the Prizms I made a prism reflecting a bean into a different substance coffee makes. I personally enjoyed creating some of these logos but I feel like since I started with the Alpine Sip, Torres and Kosmik, I started to lean towards those over the other logos.

I liked doing this but I found it hard to think of ways to variate the image without throwing off what I wanted to have. I think next time I should spend less time on the logos and stop stressing over what to change and just experiment and see what I like.

15 Final Tweaks

For my 15 final tweaks I decided to go with the Kosmik logo that I created which led me to experiment with changing the spacing, height, size, tracking and all the things that would affect a text logo. I also experimented with the position as well as the color of the word coffee. Mr Hadel helped me out with some of these designs and I took what he did to help me and changed aspects of it in order to make the logo look a certain way. Eventually I decided I wanted to add a bar to lead your eyes naturally down to the word coffee so it would go Kosmik -> the lines -> Coffee. I started to like the bar design and stuck with that for my color variations.

I personally liked doing this and it made me think more about what I would change and also made me wonder what I want to focus my logo on. I feel like next time I would spend less time making these variations as I spent a while working on these in class and I was unable to work on it for many reasons like field trips, occupied computer, internship, AP prep and all of that effected how I made those logos. I feel like next time I would try and manage my time and work more effectively.

Final Design

I decided to chose this logo for the reason that if fit what I wanted. It had a nice and unique font I made with the pen tool, had the lines I started to like that bring your attention down and had the coffee font and word stand out with the grey outline and deep blue color. I instantly gravitated to this as I was making my designs and I feel like it cam out well and I personally enjoy how it turned out.

I liked this project it was nice but also time consuming. I feel like next time if I do something similar or I could change something it would be the colors. This is because the Coffee is meant to be a deep navy blue but its not that noticeable and the grey outline on it is also barely noticeable. I think I would change these things to a different brighter color or gradient but I would also have to find out what colors I want and how I would want to incorporate it.
